In long conversation lists, text wrapping, container resizing, and streaming updates all affect message height. Determining list layout through post-render DOM measurements can force synchronous layout; interleaving measurements with updates adds further main-thread overhead. Walli Chat uses Pretext to calculate text layout outside the DOM, reducing measurement and layout round trips needed to determine message dimensions. This lowers layout overhead during long-list updates, preserving more of the frame budget for scrolling and streaming rendering.
